Today alone, more than $90,000,000 will be spent fighting the war against drugs. We, Americans, are fighting a never ending, money consuming war. The war against drugs is an extremely controversial current event taking place 24/7. With millions of dollars being spent daily, along with the millions that is made on the blackmarket, it begs the question of whether we should continue spending money on drugs, or should we legalize them, and begin turning the cash flow around. This question has been asked for decades, yet nothing has been done. Although the lack of action would suit many who support our currently 'working' system, we must wonder if there is a better system in all aspects that we could put into effect within the foreseeable future. The current American prohibition has both it’s good sides as well as its bad ones, but as time goes on, the war, as it is known, on drugs, is becoming more and more impossible to win. Ideally, through all the funding, if every goal was accomplished, we would see drugs in pill bottles and thats it. There would be no blackmarket for drug dealers, no high schoolers selling weed and cocaine, little to no adolescent drug abuse, nobody growing marijuana in their basement closet, but like many things, that is just a fantasy. Realistically if all were to go as planned, the numbers of drug dealers would decrease, and we would see less and less drug use among adults and teens, but again, not even that is foreseeable in the near nor the far future. The main reason for this is because no matter how smart law enforcement gets, drug dealers are and will always be one step ahead. How much longer will we fight the war on drugs? In the end, thats up to you.
