Say No To Drugs
Marijuana and drugs, similarly to alcohol, impair judgement and driving ability, and can have hazardous health effects. The first way drugs begin to ruin lives is through addiction. The current system of perception prevents many who suffer from injuries and require painkillers to use their painkillers until they get better, then get off the painkillers. If drugs like percoset and morphine become available to the public, the number of addicts and abusers will increase exponentially. Also, heavier, more dangerous drugs, such as methamphetamine will be seen as less dangerous, leading to more use, more abuse, and in the end, more death. These wont just be adults using and abusing newly legalized drugs, but youth as well, which is perhaps the scariest thought. We have never had an entire generation of youth grow up in a world where drugs are legalized and readily available, so the new generational upbringings could be catastrophically destructive. Another extremely scary thought that many people don't think about is the physiological affect drugs have on their users, in the sense of suicide. The highs that drugs give lead to their users to think insanely and unnaturally. Studies have shown that in places where the less harmful drug of marijuana has been legalized, like Colorado, suicide rates have increased by almost 15%. Drug use also leads to depression, especially in long time users, which can lead to health problems over time. Legalizing drugs of every kind will lead to a decrease in the quality of society, and just as nobody wants to live in the parts of town where everybody does meth and shoots heroin, think, who would want everywhere to be like that. The government hates drug abuse, and is acknowledging the fact that the deaths from overdose are now at a higher number than the nationwide deaths from homicide. Drug addiction and abuse are problems that we as a country must take care of. Tightening the leash on drug control will help our nation crack down on drugs, and will help prevent dreaded teen drug use. If America legalizes drugs, adolescent drug use, as well as drug addiction, will skyrocket, leading to a drug consumed society. Also, teaching kids to stay off drugs while they're still on the streets is useless. The only way to clean up our streets is if we start working with our hands, and fixing our tainted streets, one at a time.
