Weed Is What We Need
Every day Americans wait to legalize drugs is a waste of millions of dollars. Taxpayer money is consumed through the fight against illegal drug use and trade. This ‘prohibition’ we have is just as unsuccessful as the prohibition which began almost a century ago. It’s a money consuming, crime producing procedure which is evidently doing this nation no good. If we were to legalize these drugs, taxpayers nationwide would either be saving money, or have their money be put into more useful ventures, such as school or infrastructure improvements, rather than funding a war which will never be won.

Our prohibition, just like it did decades ago, is causing a rise of money-mad mobsters who are running our streets. Figures like Al-Capone and Jack 'Legs' Diamond have their modern day replacements who make millions selling and trafficking drugs illegally. These criminals operate with no consideration for the law, and consume our streets with violence, leading to our capital city of D.C. to get the nickname the murder capital.
|
Not only do these criminals pose a threat to our public safety, but they are making money hand over fist through their illegal activities. They ruin the economy, and earn exponentially more money than an average citizen. The only way to put these drug dealers out of business isn't to add more money into the fight against drugs, but rather is to legalize drugs and have companies produce them, whilst the government taxes it. Drugs would be safer and more regulated, as well as come with proper warnings of use, and the government, rather than the drug dealers, would be making money in bulk.
|
Last but not least, drugs, especially marijuana have medical qualities which would help create alternatives for many modern day drugs. Not only would these medical qualities help many people in need, but it would also help create more competition in the medical market, leading to a better economy and more operating money for our government who would tax it all. Legalizing drugs is an obvious better solution in comparison to tightening the tension of the drug war, or continuing our current position. Neither a tightly leashed society, nor an ineffective D.A.R.E consumed society is good for our nation. The route to a better future is via mass drug legalization.
